List of Species to be Reported to NYSARC
Last Updated 12/21/18

The New York State Avian Records Committee (NYSARC) will review reports of:

1. Any species new to New York State (not included in the current checklist).

2. Any addition to the list of species proven to nest in New York State (not having an '*' in the current checklist).

3. Any of the species listed below, according to the notations:

N Anywhere within New York State.
U In upstate New York.

D

In downstate New York.
A Outside of the Adirondacks.
P Outside of the pelagic zone but within New York State. The pelagic zone begins 3 [statute] miles from shore and extends to the 200 nautical mile mark, with state boundary lines calculated using the NPoL/CPoL (Nearest/Closest Point of Land) method
S Anywhere in New York State in spring. “D” or “U” following “S” indicates downstate or upstate the rest of the year as well.

4. Reports of rarely-documented subspecies (for example, Audubon's Warbler Dendroica coronata auduboni) or extreme out-of-season records (for example, wintering Veery, Catharus fuscescens), may also be reviewed at the committee's discretion. In such cases, documentation should be accompanied by a cover-letter outlining the potential significance of the record.

If you are in doubt as to whether a record for a species that is not listed on this page should be reviewed by NYSARC, please don't hesitate to contact the NYSARC chairperson at the address given below.

All documentation should be submitted to the New York State Avian Records Committee at:
     Gary Chapin, Secretary for NYSARC
     125 Pine Springs Drive
     Ticonderoga, NY 12883

or email:

Please use our convenient online reporting form if possible, which allows you to fill out the entire report online and submit any digital files directly from this website.  Alternatively, you can print a paper form, fill it out, and send it in, or just send the required documention (without the form) to the postal address or email address specified above.
