County List Reporting Form 2024 |
|
Your 2024 data must be submitted online using this form or received on the official paper form via USPS by March 1, 2025.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
- Participants must be 2025 individual/family members of NYSOA, 2024 members of NYSOA member clubs/organizations, or 2025 youth members of the New York State Young Birders Club.
- Only one report per form submission. Additional reporters must complete and submit their own forms, either online or via paper & USPS. Beyond the membership requirement, no attempt is made to verify, screen or otherwise edit any reports.
- All reports are for Life Lists with the exception of your (a) NYS 2024 Year List and (b) NYS 2024 Self-Found List, which includes only those birds you independently discovered during the year.
- No reports submitted in previous years are automatically carried into the next published list. If you want your numbers published, submit them on this form, even if they haven’t changed.
NYS SELF-FOUND total for the year: How many of all the species on your NYS 2024 year list you
found without help.
For rules, see https://punkbirder.webs.com/selffoundrules.htm
Pelagic Zone and Inland Bodies of Water
The NYSARC/eBird/ABA NYS Pelagic Zone definition: Beginning 3 [statute] miles from shore and extending to the 200 nautical mile mark, with state boundary lines calculated using the NPoL/CPoL (Nearest/Closest Point of Land) method.
PZ species should be included in your PZ, NYS, Region 10, AND Queens, Nassau, and/or Suffolk life totals. See nybirds.org/CountyLists/PelagicBoundaries.htm for details. Also please read the information on that page regarding inland bodies of water and associated county boundaries (they don't always fall in the middle of the body of water!).
Kingbird Regions
Boundaries of the ten KINGBIRD REGIONS: See
http://nybirds.org/CountyLists/map-counties-kbregions.pdf.
Acceptable Species
DO NOT INCLUDE in your numbers any hybrids, subspecies, forms, released or escaped birds or any species not yet on the official Checklist of the Birds of New York State. Just a few examples of birds not to be included in your reports are: Chukar, Great White Heron, Brewster’s Warbler, Oregon Junco. In some cases, the bird may eventually be included in the Checklist; have patience. You may, of course, keep anything you want on your personal lists, but for reporting here, please conform to the rules we ask everyone to follow.
Thresholds
For the NYS Life List, NYS Year List, and Regional List categories, there are minimum reporting thresholds, as indicated. Reports below required thresholds will not be published.
