Additional comments, including
comparisons with other species and
observer's experience
The
purpose of this section is to invite discussion and clarification of key field marks by comparing similar/related species OR associated species.
Please provide
any additional information that you feel will be helpful. Such
information might include:
- The oberver's field experience, especially as related to the species, location, and habitat in question.
- Other species considered, and how they were eliminated as possibilities
- References to online discussions that may have occurred, e.g. on NYSBIRDS-L or other mailing lists/forums
The
following is an example of what not to write in this section:
I've been birding 63 years—can't think of any other species that quite
looks or sounds like the bird in question!
While comments like the above are well intended and reflect significant experience, they are often self defeating since they offer no information that is really useful in making a decision on the bird being reported.
