This individual spent several days on a pond in Ellenville, New
York. Although not visible here, its right eye was missing or damaged.
Interestingly a similar bird was reported from Massachusetts in
1997 and then seen again in April 2000 a few days after the Ellenville
bird vanished. There is good reason to think this is the same individual
wandering around in the northeast.
